A school in Mozambique
A school in Mozambique for disabled and excluded children that offers a safe space for learning and play, helping them grow and become positive examples in their community.
The school integrates play into education, inspired by traditional African settlements to foster community and improve integration skills. The school design uses the terrain's levels to create one main cluster and two teaching clusters.
The main cluster includes administration, multi-use spaces, and areas for dining and play. The teaching clusters feature classrooms linked by playful landscapes and courtyards, enhancing learning and supporting student well-being and management.
The contours are visually enhanced with a range of colours, improving the landscape and creating a playful, safe environment. Radial surfaces connect clusters and provide multifunctional spaces. Sustainable building methods combine skilled techniques for community construction. The concrete base walls feature rammed earth bricks and bamboo roofs, allowing colour from the floors to integrate with the roofs, adding functional and visual appeal to the school.
